Simone Barnes
SPECIALIZES IN SELF-ESTEEM, IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT, RELATIONSHIPS, STRESS MANAGEMENT, TRAUMA, & LIFE TRANSITIONS.
I am Simone Barnes, M.S., LPC Associate, NCC, and I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. I have a particular interest in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity development, relationship difficulties, stress management, trauma, and life transitions. I've always been drawn to helping people navigate difficult experiences and recognize their own strengths. I value being able to support individuals as they work toward healing, growth, and a better understanding of themselves.
I believe counseling should be a space where you feel comfortable being yourself and talking about the things that may be difficult to put into words. As a counselor, I see myself as an extra set of eyes and ears, someone who can listen, offer a different perspective, and help you make sense of what you may be experiencing. I want my clients to feel heard, supported, and accepted without feeling like they have to have everything figured out before coming to counseling. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to support you as you work through the things that brought you to counseling. I primarily use person-centered therapy and incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques when appropriate. I believe counseling should be individualized to the person sitting in front of me, and I value working together to find what feels helpful and meaningful for you.
I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During my graduate training, I gained experience working with adolescents, young adults, and adults in university counseling settings, providing individual counseling and co-leading group therapy. I also have experience working with children and families through ABA therapy, which gave me the opportunity to support children with behavioral and developmental needs while working closely with their families. These experiences have allowed me to work with people at different stages of life and have reinforced the importance of meeting each client where they are.
Outside of counseling, I am originally from Charlotte, NC, and recently made Texas home. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, going to concerts and events, exercising, reading, and watching reality TV. I also love exploring new places and finding the little things that make everyday life more enjoyable.
Wherever you are in your journey, you don't have to navigate it alone. I would be honored to hear your story and walk alongside you as you work toward greater self-understanding, growth, and a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.
