“What’s your new year’s resolution?” is probably one of the most asked questions during this time of the year. For some, a new year’s resolution is seen as a reset; a new year has just begun and time has literally reset to the beginning of the calendar year! Oh, the possibilities!
It can feel overwhelming to consider what type of resolution to make, and collectively, the past two years have been some of the most challenging for everyone. We’ve experienced a quarantine, loss, fear, adjustments, and a huge opportunity to look inward; it’s time for us to be able to have some fun! While fun might feel like something we haven’t thought of in a while, it’s something that we all could use some more of. Here are some fun new years resolution ideas…
Fun Resolution Ideas
- Try a new activity once a month.
There are all kinds of activities all around us that we say to ourselves, “I’d like to try that one day”. Well, maybe today is the day to google and find out about engaging! Trying a new activity each month is a nice way to incorporate new experiences into your life, without the pressure of engaging in an intentional activity every day or several times a week. Whether this activity is going to an art museum, trying out paddleboarding, a rock climbing class, or taking time to volunteer for your community, setting up a monthly activity can be a way to look forward to and engage in new experiences! - Try a different food each week.
Let’s face it, as much as we try to spend more time cooking at home, there are times that we just don’t feel like it. It’s common to go to our usual spots when we go out to eat. A way to make this a new experience is to try out a different type of food each week! Whether it be eating cuisine that you haven’t tried before, or cooking a new recipe (if we feel up to it), food is a fun way of connecting with others and experiencing new flavors. - Have a night in with yourself.
While some resolutions focus on doing something new, sometimes it’s nice to just be. Be still with yourself. It might not sound the most fun, in the beginning, but spending time with yourself can, in fact, be fun! Take this time to engage in your interests, such as watching a documentary you’re curious about, engage in your hobby (or discover your hobby), and just be. - Read!
Reading can be a fun way to escape our world and interact with another! While it can be challenging to pick a book, there are several platforms on social media, in which people collectively read a new book together. If engaging in a type of book club isn’t for you, there are still options, such as striving to read a book once a week, once a month, or once a season. Start out slow. If reading 10 pages a day is all the time you have, that is okay! You are still making time for fun.
We’re not even two weeks into the new year, and 2022 is full of magical possibilities for us to incorporate more fun for ourselves, our families, our interests, and our overall wellbeing and health. Let us all strive for more fun, however, that looks for you, in this new year!
